ORANGEVALE, Calif. (Oct. 11, 2013) - After trailing Del Campo 20-7 at halftime, Casa Roble Fundamental High School's varsity football team came back to defeat the Cougars 35-32 in Orangevale.

Del Campo went up 7-0 in the opening quarter of play as the Cougars scored on the first play of their third possession of the game. With 26 seconds left on the clock, Austin Brown scored on a 68 yard run. The extra point kick was good and Del Campo owned the early advantage.

Casa Roble used a big play of its own to even the score early in the second quarter. After a short gain by Gabe Alvarado moved the ball to Casa Roble's own 27, quarterback Peyton Wifley ran the ball 73 yards down the right side of the field on the next play for a TD with 11:48 left in the quarter. Michael Povey's extra point kick tied the game at 7-7.

The Cougars, however, came right back to retake the lead on their next possession. Starting from its own 24, Del Campo drove all the way to Bella Vista's two-yard line before Brown punched the ball in for his second TD of the game with 8:41 showing on the clock. The PAT attempt failed as the ball sailed wide left, but Del Campo held a 13-7 lead.

The Cougars extended their lead after an interception gave the Cougars the ball back on the Rams' very next play. Starting from their own 25, Casa Roble's Wifley was intercepted by Del Campo's Rob Heckey. Wifley eventually chased Heckey down, but Del Campo took possession of the football on the Rams' 24-yard line.

Del Campo scored on a 24 yard pass play from Ben Purcell to Preston Semkiw and the PAT gave the Cougars a 20-7 lead.

Casa Roble's next drive was also ended by an interception as Wifley had a pass picked off by Del Campo's Roberto Pardo. This time, however, Casa Roble's defense took a stand thwarting an 86 yard, 16 play drive by the Cougars.

Del Campo advanced all the way to Casa Roble's four-yard line before two incomplete passes ended the drive on a fourth down. Casa Roble took over with only seconds remaining in the half and chose to let the clock run out.

The Rams drew first blood in the second half as Casa Roble scored to open the third quarter on a long touchdown pass. Wifley hit Angel Tenorio on a 65 yard strike with 10:49 showing on the clock. Povey's kick closed the score to 20-14.

Del Campo came right back on its next possession to score on yet another long play as Purcell hit Semkiw on a 63 yard pass play with 9:15 showing on the clock. The PAT failed leaving Del Campo with a 26-14 lead.

The Rams closed back to within five points on their very next possession as they drove to within a foot of Del Campo's goal line. Wifley took it in with 7:00 left in the third quarter. Povey's kick was good to make it a 26-21 game.

Casa Roble stopped Del Campo's next drive and took over on the Cougars' 45. The Rams drove to the Del Campo 17 where Wifley hit Branden McCarthy for a touchdown with 2:00 on the clock. Casa Roble tried for a two-point conversion, but Wifley's pass was no good. The Rams owned a narrow 27-26 lead.

The teams traded touchdowns in the final quarter, including a 60 yard pass from Wifley to Jake Romine and two-point conversion run by Tenorio for the final 35-32 tally.

The Casa Roble win improved the Rams' overall record to 5-1, 1-0 in Capital Valley Conference play, while the Cougars dropped to 1-5, 0-1.
